In summer 2021 alongside our Local Plan Issues and Options consultation, we launched a second ‘Call for Sites’ exercise to invite suggestions for sites that may be suitable for housing or employment development.
40 sites were submitted in our second Call for Sites. We are now undertaking a high level assessment looking at key constraints that may affect sites and to gather other relevant information, including seeking early feedback from communities and stakeholders through this survey.
We are working on a Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) which will consider whether each of the submitted sites could be considered suitable, available and achievable for residential or employment development and are aiming to publish a draft report for comment in late 2022.
The SHELAA will inform the Local Plan Review, and during that process we will consult on possible options for new site allocations. Any sites proposed for development through the Local Plan process will be subject to further consultation, and will be independently assessed by a Planning Inspector when the Local Plan is submitted for examination in 2024.
The site information that was submitted through the Call for Sites is published in the report below and a map is provided of each site in the report. Please note this is the original information that was submitted by the site promoter and we have not yet verified it or completed our own assessment. We have also mapped the sites on our interactive mapping which can be accessed at the link below.
At this stage we are offering the opportunity for communities and stakeholders to give us their initial thoughts on the sites that have been suggested via the online survey below.
There will be further opportunities to comment on sites as the Local Plan Review process progresses, for example when we publish our draft SHELAA report which will include our initial assessment of sites, and at the draft Local Plan stage in 2023 when we will propose preferred sites for allocation and publish detailed site assessments.
Please note that some of the sites submitted through the 2021 Call for Sites were also submitted during the 2020 Call for Sites, and have been submitted with updated information or amended boundaries in some cases. If you have previously provided comments on the 2020 sites there is no need to re-submit them but additional comments are welcome.
