A six week public consultation is taking place between Monday 19 May and Friday 27 June to consider the alternative sites that were proposed for the Housing DPD in response to the Issues and Options consultation last year.
A large number of alternative sites have been proposed to the Council and we would like to hear your views on these alternative sites so they can be properly considered, along with the original Issues and Options sites, when the Council starts to identify Preferred Options for housing sites later in the year. The Housing Development Plan document forms part of the Eden Local Development Framework and represents a combination of the Housing Development Plan Policy and Housing Site Allocations that are identified in the Local Development Scheme. It will shape guidelines for housing developments over the next 15 years and impact on issues such as affordable housing. It will provide greater detail and clarity to the overarching framework that is identified in the Core Strategy and will allocate sites for housing in the Eden area outside of the Lake District National park. This will ensure that future housing development meets local needs and takes place in a planned way.
The Council will consider the responses to the new alternative sites together with those from the initial Issues and Options consultation. It will also identify criteria for identifying and prioritising sites to take forward as Preferred Options. The criteria are likely to be agreed by he Council's Cabinet later this year. It will then produce a Preferred Options paper with draft policies and preferred sites for public consultation. This consultation is due to take palce in Autumn 2008.
