The government believes local people should have increasingly more say in the decisions about their local area and the things that affect their daily lives. The Place Survey is a statutory survey which must be conducted every two years by local councils throughout the country. In Cumbria the survey for 2008 is being conducted on behalf of the County Council and all District and Borough Councils by BMG Research. It follows prescribed guidelines and uses a questionnaire template set out by central government to gather information that reflects people's preferences. A questionnaire is being sent by post to a random sample of households across the county between September and December 2008.
Results from the survey will help us understand people's views and experiences of our local areas and local public services. It will also help us find out how well the partners in Cumbria are delivering services and tackling issues that matter to people locally.
Results of the survey will be provided by BMG Research in early 2009. Local people's views, experiences and perceptions will help the Council to determine whether its interventions in the area result in the right outcomes for local people, in terms of happiness, health and safety.
