Cumbria Primary Care Trust (PCT) has been developing a strategy to provide more health services closer to people’s homes. We have worked together with our key health and social care partners – North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Cumbria County Council – in preparing proposals for how to do this across the north of Cumbria. We have established proposals for a framework for providing more services in primary care and in the community, including the transfer of some services from the hospitals in which they have traditionally been provided. We consulted on our proposals from 27th September 2007 to 1st February 2008.
The consultation process set out how our new model of care would operate and how our proposals might be developed and implemented in Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland and Eden.
This document tells you about our response to the consultation process in the north of the County. It lets you know:
• what we originally proposed;
• what you told us;
• our decisions and how our plans have changed as a result of your feedback.
Cumbria Primary Care Trust (PCT) has been developing a strategy to provide more health services closer to people’s homes. We have worked together with our key health and social care partners in preparing these proposals for how to do this across the north of Cumbria – North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Cumbria County Council.
We have established proposals for a framework for providing more services in primary care and in the community, including the transfer of some services from the hospitals in which they have traditionally been provided. This consultation document explains how this new model of care would operate and how these proposals might be developed and implemented in Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland and Eden. Importantly, it explains how hospital services in north and west Cumbria would need to change as we move certain services into the community.
Our proposals build on previous consultations about health and healthcare services in north Cumbria, and our thinking has been informed by extensive engagement with patients, carers and stakeholders about how health services can be improved.
Your views on these proposals are vital. We need to build a health and social care service in our county in which people have confidence and belief. Indeed, we need to look forward to a future in which health and social care services in Cumbria are built around the needs of patients.
The document invites your comments on our proposals.
