Bram Longstaffe Nursery

Closed 3 Apr 2020

Opened 24 Feb 2020

Overview

This consultation is about the services provided from the Bram Longstaffe building on Farm Street, Barrow in Furness LA14 2RX, and the county council's proposal to stop operating a nursery on the site. Other services running from the site will not be affected and we are committed to retaining the Bram Longstaffe building as a valuable community resource.

Why We Are Consulting

The nursery received an Ofsted judgement in December 2019 of 'Special Measures' (there is a link to the Ofsted report further down this page). This is the worst rating that Ofsted can deliver and means that the nursery is not delivering the standard of education expected. Numbers at the nursery have declined in recent years and this affects the viability of the school and its future sustainability in delivering the best opportunities to its pupils. The school budget has been in deficit for a number of years, and there is little or no prospect that it can be brought back to a healthy position.
