South Lakeland Local Plan - Young People's Survey 2021

Closed 19 Nov 2021

Opened 6 Sep 2021

We all know South Lakeland is a great place to live, a great place to grow up, go to school or college and a great place to enjoy.

But keeping it special doesn’t happen by accident.

Through careful planning we need to make sure that the area has the right homes and jobs for your futures, that the natural environment is protected and that we do everything we can to protect wildlife and tackle climate change.

That’s where the Local Plan comes in. The Local Plan doesn’t sound very exciting, but it’s actually a really important document.

The Council uses the Local Plan to draw up rules about what can and can’t be built, where it can be built and what sort of housing, employment and environmental protections the area needs.

The Local Plan for South Lakeland covers the area in yellow on the map below:

Because the Local Plan looks to the future (it covers the next 20 years) it’s crucial we get it right for future generations

And that means we want to hear from YOU!

You may not be thinking about these things just yet, but you are the people who may be looking for work, buying houses and living in the area over the next 20 years…so it’s important that we know what you think should be in the Local Plan. That's why we're asking you to fill in this quick 15 minute survey.

Why your views matter

We're at an early stage of reviewing our Local Plan and it's a great time to get involved. The Local Plan is about the future, and that's why we want to hear from young people - after all, it's your future!

We are carrying out this survey to find out what matters to young people about their area. This will help us to produce a Local Plan that reflects what is important to them.
